Montclair Council Votes To Extend Property Tax Grace Period
The council put the resolution on the meeting agenda after Governor Phil Murphy's executive order on property taxes.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Township Council unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday evening that extends the second-quarter property tax payment grace period to June 1.
The council put the resolution on the May 5 council meeting agenda after Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 130 last week to allow municipalities to make the grace period extension, moving the payment due date from May 1 to June 1.
“We are pleased with the governor’s decision to extend the grace period to provide a bit of breathing room for our homeowners, many of whom had been asking for an extension,” Mayor Robert Jackson said. “The COVID-19 pandemic is severely impacting so many of our residents and businesses and we hope this measure will help to somewhat ease the burden.”
