Montclair Early Music Launches Group For Beginning Recorder

The group will meet weekly in Montclair beginning Wednesday, July 29.

The group "The Musettes" is geared for adults who want to play music with others in a small group just for fun. The group will meet weekly in Montclair beginning Wednesday, July 29, 6 pm at First Lutheran Church, 153 Park St, Montclair. Call Julienne Pape at 973-932-0424 for more information. Montclair Early Music’s mission is to bring history to life through music. Music of the Baroque, Renaissance, and Medieval periods are particularly well suited to small group ensembles with each of the parts melodic, interactive, and playing an equally important role. Folk, Jazz or contemporary music are included as well.

These sessions offer the perfect opportunity for those who played an instrument in high school and want to play music again. The recorder is easy to learn and comes in various voices: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass making it easy to form a consort.

Montclair Early Music’s advanced group performs several concerts a year. Our most recent performance, Jubilee, a celebration of African American Music took place Sunday, June 26 at the Montclair Art Museum. In December 2021, MEM presented Joyeux Noel, Christmas in Medieval France including music, stories, art, and dance with audience participation. The next program, Music of Early America will be on September 11, at Montclair Women’s Club.

Montclair Early Music,a 501 (c) 3 is composed of amateur and professional musicians, established in 2010 by Julienne Pape with the objective of bringing history to life through music thereby raising awareness and appreciation of Baroque, Renaissance, and Medieval Music. MEM has performed locally at community events including Glen Ridge Mayoral Reception, Montclair YMCA, Montclair Historical Society, Victorian Society, Presby Iris Gardens, A Twelfth Night Celebration in Somerville NJ, and at various area churches including a Winter Solstice Celebration, Music from Shakespeare’s plays and Robin Hood at the May Faire.
