Montclair Event Helps Kids Learn About Asthma
In New Jersey, nearly nine percent of youth under 18 suffer from asthma, the Boys and Girls Club says.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Breathing may seem easy to some, but in New Jersey, nearly nine percent of youths under the age of 18 suffer from asthma. And with asthma reportedly being the leading cause of school absence and the third most common cause of hospitalization (for kids 15 years and younger), the affliction can affect their quality of life now as well as their achievement for the future.
That’s why the Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey and The Horizon Foundation recently partnered to host a day of summer fun and hands-on learning for almost 100 kids at 18 Label in Montclair.
The Montclair event, which promoted the Breathe Easier with Asthma Management (BEAM) program, included a healthy cooking demonstration led by celebrity chef and former Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark alumni Ameer Natson, as well as arts and crafts projects, according to a news release.
