Montclair Fitness Studio Closes After Fire, Struggles With Landlord
"It's still pushups and squats and burpees all day, every day – just not in Montclair."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A fitness studio in Montclair that gained a loyal following and made it through the pandemic has finally called it quits, it announced last week.
Architect Studios at 537 Bloomfield Avenue closed its doors on Friday. The local business was born in 2010 with the intention of “creating a place where anyone at any fitness level would be welcome and accepted.”
Architect Studios released more information about the reason it is shutting down in a social media post. It read:

“It is with very heavy hearts that as of August 26, 2022, architect studios will be closing our doors. Over the past eight years, we have coached thousands of awesome people to be their strongest self, have fun and be a part of the very unique community that is and forever will be architect studios. It was because of you that we grew out of our original space on Glenridge Avenue and moved and thrived on Lackawanna Plaza. We expanded our team, expanded our schedule, threw all of the parties, community events and had the time of our lives. We even pushed through endless COVID closures. But after issues with our landlord, we moved to a new space on Bloomfield Avenue. The nail in the coffin was that after a few weeks being in our new space on Bloomfield Avenue there was a fire in our building, and after being closed for over three months, the building is still under construction with no end in sight.”
Since the fire, founder Adrienne Felder has been looking for a new location in a nearby town.
“We’re sad to be leaving after eight years, especially the clients who supported us in the pandemic, but it wasn’t easy to run a small business here,” Felder told Patch.

“The high intensity isn’t stopping, though,” Felder added. “It’s still pushups and squats and burpees all day, every day – just not in Montclair.”
Architect Studios continued:
“The last classes held with architect studios will be on Friday, August 26. Our class schedule will be wiped clean after the last class on the 26th. We are not falling off the side of the earth. Pop up classes will still happen. Stay connected to the architect studios social media. We just need a break of being small business owners. After the 26th, Adrienne will continue to offer wellness coaching and host boot camp classes in the park, and Sarah will continue to coach online classes. If you want to join those fitness parties, stay tuned to Adrienne and Sarah on social media for next steps.”
“We want to give a very special thank you to our staff that supported us to the end - Roy, Bernie, Jonathan, Juju and Lindley, and of course YOU our architect studios community,” the social media post added. “It is the end of a fantastic era. With Love ~ Adrienne & Sarah.”
