Montclair Free Events: 'Every Wednesday Matinee' Film Series

From Montclair Library: On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a classic film series presented in its auditorium. In November, Aviation movies will be shown with the exception of November 22nd when a Thanksgiving film will be shown.

The Spirit of St. Louis (November 1) - Starring James Stewart, Murray Hamilton, Patricia Smith. Charles 'Slim' Lindbergh struggles to finance and design an airplane that will make his New York to Paris flight the first solo transatlantic crossing. (1957, 135 minutes, color). Hell’s Angels (November 8) - Starring Ben Lyon, James Hall, Jean Harlow.

Brothers Monte and Ray leave Oxford to join the Royal Flying Corps. Ray loves Helen; Helen enjoys an affair with Monte; before they leave on their mission over Germany they find her in still another man's arms. (1930, 127 minutes, black & white).

The Blue Max (November 15) - Starring George Peppard, James Mason, Ursula Andress. A young pilot in the German air force of 1918, disliked as lower-class and unchivalrous, tries ambitiously to earn the medal offered for 20 kills. (1966, 156 minutes, color). An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving (November 22) - Starring Jacqueline Bisset, Helene Joy, Tatiana Maslany. Set in the late 1880's, a widowed mother of three struggles to keep her family intact and to put food on the table. The oldest daughter sends a letter to her estranged and very wealthy grandmother urging her assistance, much to her mother's disapproval. When the grandmother arrives, old wounds are opened but eventually healed. Based on a story by Louisa May Alcott. (2008, 90 minutes, color).

Twelve O’Clock High (November 29) – Starring Gregory Peck, Hugh Marlowe, Gary Merrill. A hard-as- nails general takes over a bomber unit suffering from low morale and whips them into fighting shape (1949, 132 minutes, black & white).
