Lisa Watson, a Montclair resident and a volunteer for Covenant House NJ, offered the following statement about the origins of Nancy’s Place:

“Nancy's place was a house gifted by a lady named Nancy, whose son struggled with mental illness. As a result, Nancy became concerned with the thousands of young people who are homeless and also may be challenged with mental illness and are not provided with the appropriate support and resources. Since the house was donated, Nancy's Place has become a haven for many young people who have aged out of foster care and would have been homeless otherwise. The residents in the house are all provided with resources for their mental illness as well as a safe place to stay while navigating the next chapter of their lives. The staff of Nancy's place really strive to make the house a home and take the residents grocery shopping, they provide job assistance as well as school support.”
