Montclair Garage Fire Spread To Cars, Power Lines: MFD

A Sunday garage fire on Norwood Avenue spread to a nearby telephone pole and power lines, Montclair fire officials say.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Sunday garage fire on Norwood Avenue spread to a nearby telephone pole and power lines, but was extinguished without injuries to anyone involved, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, firefighters received a report of a garage fire on Norwood Avenue around 4:28 p.m. On arrival, firefighters found a detached, two-car garage “fully engulfed in flames” which were in the process of spreading to a pair of nearby cars and an adjacent neighbor’s garage.

Further complicating the situation, the fire had already spread to a nearby telephone pole, burning the transformer and power lines overhead, MFD officials stated.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and cleared the scene at 6:39 p.m., officials said.

Fire officials said that there was severe damage to the garage, as well as the two parked vehicles. In addition, the neighbor’s garage sustained damage to the siding and a broken window.

PSE&G responded to repair their equipment, officials said. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, authorities added.
