Montclair July 4th Fireworks, Parade, Picnic: 2018 Guide

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair is celebrating July 4th with a special 150th anniversary themed parade and fun-packed family picnic – expanded to mark the township's sesquicentennial in style. The day’s events will be followed by evening fireworks at Yogi Berra Stadium on the Montclair State University campus. The parade and picnic are free, admission to the stadium will be $3 person/$10 per family (see below for additional admission information).

According to a municipal news release:

"The 150th themed parade begins at 11 a.m. along a 1.6-mile route traveling west on Bloomfield Avenue, north on Midland Avenue, continuing to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and ending at Edgemont Park, the site of the town picnic. The parade is a rain or shine event and will feature sesquicentennial themed floats and performances by the Fralinger String Band of the Philadelphia Mummers, the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps, St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band, Essex and Union County Marching Band, Wayne Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps and plenty more spectacular performances. Watch for your local favorites in the 2018 line-up, such as the Montclair Community Band, Scouts, Applegate Farm, Uncle Sam on Stilts, Dan the Big Bike Man, Civil War marchers, Isabella and her hula hoops, community groups and organizations with floats and marchers, fire engines, antique cars, and much, much more in store, including everyone's favorite -- Elvis."

This year’s greatly-expanded family picnic will take place at Edgemont Park from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature free carousel rides, live music, a magic show, acrobat, demonstrations by 19th century reenactors from the Second NJ Brigade, hot dog and ice cream eating contests sponsored by Applegate Farm. Food, snacks and drinks will be available for sale from Jack's Seafood, Applegate Farm and other food vendors.

Picnic and parade attendees are encouraged to dress in vintage clothing to celebrate 150 years of the Township of Montclair. Prizes will be awarded to the top three outfits.

The annual fireworks display will take place at Yogi Berra Stadium on Montclair State University campus. The stadium admission fee is $3 per person or $10 for a family (family = up to 6 people; $2 per person beyond 6), free for kids ages 5 and under. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Carparc Diem deck, adjacent to Floyd Hall Arena and at the Red Hawk parking deck. Overflow vehicles will be directed to other parking areas. Concessions will be available at the stadium; no outside food, water or other drinks may be brought into the stadium.
