Montclair Kids Start Cupcake Business

Montclair, NJ – For local youth entrepreneurs Scarlett and Sage, the basis of their business is simple.
They want to give back.
That’s why Montclair residents Scarlett, 5, and Sage, 6, started Wish Cupcake Candles, a “mobile cupcake stand” that allows customers to partake in delicious, deep-dish cupcakes in a jar.

Each cupcake comes with a scented candle kit that one of the youths created, according to a news release from their mother, Hakika DuBose.
“The idea came when Sage and Scarlett wanted to create something that allowed them to make a wish, even when it wasn’t their birthday,” DuBose told Patch. “The kids played around with ideas until they came up with the cupcake/candle idea.”

The young entrepreneurs had an even tastier way of describing their small business.
“Everyone knows that the best part of your birthday is the frosting,” Sage emphasized.
If that wasn’t sweet enough, there’s more. The kids give a portion of each week’s sales to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, DuBose said.
The duo has been setting up shop throughout Montclair on Saturday mornings. To follow their exploits or to place an order, follow them on Facebook here, or reach out via email at hakikad@gmail.com.
