Montclair Lawyer To Join Peace Corps, Serve In Tanzania

Montclair's Robert Goodsell will be trading board room meetings for crop production and animal husbandry.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Robert Goodsell, a senior partner with Post Polak Goodsell & Strauchler, in Roseland and a long-time Montclair resident, will take a 27-month sabbatical from the firm where he has been a partner since 1984 to join the U.S. Peace Corps.

Goodsell will be serving as a volunteer in Tanzania in the Peace Corps Sustainable Agriculture program and is scheduled to depart in early February, according to a news release.

As an overseas volunteer, Goodsell will assist rural villagers in a range of activities including crop production and gardening, animal husbandry, environmental awareness and development of small-scale businesses.

Due to high levels of poverty in villages, as a volunteer, Goodsell will be sending significant amounts of time creating and facilitating opportunities for villagers to improve their livelihoods, with a focus on supporting families affected by HIV/AIDS.

At Post Polak, Goodsell has served as a transactional attorney, closing substantial matters for the firm's institutional and corporate clients. He has served as general counsel to the Morristown Municipal Airport and the Warren Township Sewerage Authority, and has directed the firm’s appellate litigation practice.
