The Montclair program will offer an English conversation group for parents and a literacy program for their children.

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair Public Library (MPL) has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Montclair Foundation to support a new family literacy program for English language learners and their children.
According to a release, the MPL will partner with the Montclair Community Pre-K (MCPK) and the Literacy Volunteers of America, Essex and Passaic Counties (LVA), to offer an English conversation group for parents and a literacy program for their children.
Sessions will be held once a week at the MCPK with dinner and childcare included. The adult conversation group will be led by LVA instructors, and MCPK educators and MPL librarians will conduct the children’s programming.

“We are thrilled to offer this program at the Montclair Community Pre-K since it helps young children and their families both develop literacy skills that are critical for success in school and in life,” says MCPK Executive Director Stephanie Fitzgerald. “The inclusion of dinner and a fun literacy program for the children makes this a winning opportunity for the entire family.”
The support from the Montclair Foundation allows the MPL to provide this program at no cost to the participants, a release stated.
