Montclair Library To Show Free Animal Movies In August
See the list of family-friendly, animal-themed flicks to be screened at the library this month.

On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., the Montclair Public Library will host “The Every Wednesday Matinee,” a classic film series presented in its auditorium.

- Mighty Joe Young (August 5)—Starring Terry Moore, Ben Johnson and Robert Armstrong. A young woman living on her father’s ranch in Africa raises a giant gorilla from an infant and later brings him to Hollywood. (1949, 94 minutes, B&W)
- Old Yeller (August 12)—Starring Dorothy McGuire, Fess Parker and Tommy Kirk. Young Travis Coates reluctantly adopts a dog, but grows to love and respect Old Yeller, who comes to have a profound effect on the boy’s life. (1957, 83 minutes, Color)
- Bedtime for Bonzo (August 19)—Starring Ronald Reagan, Diana Lynn and Walter Slezak. College prof Peter Boyd tries to salvage his professional and personal reputation by using a lab chimp to prove that environment trumps heredity in behavioral development. (1951, 83 minutes, B&W)
- Lassie Come Home (August 26)—Starring Roddy McDowall, Donald Crisp and Dame May Whitty. After her destitute family is forced to sell her, a collie named Lassie escapes from her new owner and begins the long trek from Scotland to her Yorkshire home. (1943, 89 minutes, Color)
