Montclair Man Allegedly Swung Dog Into Tree, Charged With Cruelty
The 40-pound, mixed breed dog had a small amount of blood on its head but "didn't appear seriously injured," Montclair police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair police arrested a 64-year-old man after he allegedly swung a dog through the air on a leash and into a tree on Eagle Rock Way on Sunday. The 40-pound, mixed breed dog had a small amount of blood on its head but “didn’t appear seriously injured,” authorities said.
According to police, Lawrence Athill, 64, of Montclair, was charged with cruelty to animals following the incident.
Animal control officers responded to the scene and took the dog for medical treatment. The dog will remain in their care until a final determination is made, police said.
