Montclair Man, Marijuana Journalism Mogul Talks About 'High Times' Rebrand

A Montclair resident and cannabis journalism mogul is attempting to breathe new life into one of the most well-known marijuana culture magazines in the nation.
Larry Linietsky, a former executive at Universal Music Group and the new COO of High Times magazine, recently interviewed with The New York Times about his company’s plans to revamp its image and marketability for the new millennium.
High Times – which is as well-known for its centerfold-like images of marijuana buds as its pro-cannabis news journalism – will be trying to rebrand itself to appeal to a changing demographic of consumer, Linietsky told The Times.

“High Times isn’t just for historically self-identified stoners anymore,” Linietsky said. “We are appealing to everyone who likes cannabis, or is at least curious about it, both recreationally and for medicinal use. That could be your boss, your neighbor or even your grandmother.”
Future moves for the magazine and brand include a partnership with Mashable, merchandising and plans to open a series of high-end cannabis-consumption lounges in Colorado and Las Vegas, The Times reported.

In addition to Linietsky, Montclair has another major link to the burgeoning cannabis industry… it’s home to one of New Jersey’s six licensed medical marijuana dispensaries.
