Montclair Marathoners Marking the Miles

Which locals are among the 47,000 racing through New York's five boroughs today?

A record 47,107 runners started the famous New York City Marathon through the five boroughs under gorgeous skies on Sunday morning.

As always, many Montclair residents were among them. (This writer had a very good time plodding along at the 2007 marathon.)

In the end, though, it was Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya who won the New York City Marathon on Sunday, setting a new course record by crossing the finish line at 2:05:06.

The previous record of 2:07:43 had been held by Tesfaye Jifar of Ethiopia since 2001.

The second- and third-place finishers Sunday also broke the old course record. Fellow Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai (no relation), the London Marathon champ, was second and Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia was third.
