Montclair Needs Volunteers For Town Boards, Committees

Vacancies are available on the rent control board, arts advisory committee and more. There's also a volunteer opportunity involving animals.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Are you a Montclair resident who has a strong opinion about how things should be run in town? Here’s your chance to walk the walk.

Township officials recently announced that there are vacancies on several local boards and commissions, including the newly re-established Arts Advisory Committee (established via Resolution R-25-103).

As of May 12, other vacancies are open for the following groups:

RENT CONTROL BOARD

In addition to the above, the Township Rent Control Board is trying to fill two vacancies: a tenant member and an alternate tenant member.

According to a municipal advisory:

“The board consists of seven regular members: three tenants, one homeowner who is neither a landlord or tenant, and three landlords who shall reside or own property covered by Chapter 257. In addition to the seven regular members, there shall be two alternate members. The alternate members shall be one landlord who resides in or owns property covered by this chapter; and one tenant, who resides in Montclair and does not own property covered by Chapter 257.”

WILDLIFE RESCUE

Government boards not your thing? The town also needs volunteers to help animal control with wildlife rescue.

According to a municipal advisory:

“Wildlife rescues generally increase in the spring with the arrival of vulnerable newborn animals. The town could use support from volunteers willing to drive an animal to a wildlife rescue on an occasional basis.”
