Montclair Nonprofit Earns $53K Block Grant Award

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently awarded $53,000 of Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding to the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation (MNDC).

The calendar year 2019 award – approved via resolution – was provided through the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program which allocates funds to assist in providing emergency services and various programs to low-income communities throughout Essex County.

According to a news release from the freeholder board, the services provided through the MNDC will include:

• Employment Readiness and Financial Literacy programs
• Independent Living Support Services
• Youth After-School programs

Essex County Freeholder President Brendan Gill said that the MNDC “works tirelessly” to enhance the quality of life for all Montclair residents.

“I’m pleased that this resolution passed without delay,” Gill said.

MNDC Executive Director Albert Pelham thanked the freeholder board for helping to fund the nonprofit’s community outreach programs.

Pelham, who oversees community operations for the MNDC, also said the MNDC’s working relationship with the Township of Montclair helps in achieving the group’s goals.

“The Job Readiness Program provides our youth with a head start on looking for summer jobs, then our collaboration process with the town of Montclair helps our young people secure the jobs they are looking for,” Pelham said.
