Montclair Obitutary: Valerie R. Joseph

Longtime Montclair resident Valerie R. Joseph passed away on Aug. 26.

She was 54-years-old.

“Valerie R. Joseph, 54, of Upper Montclair, N.J., went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Temple, 1111 Preakness Avenue, Wayne, N.J. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.

“Born in Kingston, Jamaica to Iris and the late Aston Gunter, Valerie came to the U.S. many years ago, settling in Montclair, N.J. before moving to Upper Montclair over 25 years ago. She was a physician coordinator for Orange Memorial Hospital, Orange, N.J., prior to her retirement. She was a devoted member of Calvary Temple, and was a part of their morning intercessory prayer group.

“Predeceased by her father, Aston Gunter and her brothers, Desmond Gunter and Oral Narcisse, Valerie is survived by her husband, Rodolphe Joseph; her children, Julissa Lauren Joseph, Melanie Jeanette Joseph, and Roanne Nichelle Joseph; her mother, Iris Gunter; her siblings, Dorothy Rose, Carmelita Gunter, Thelma Satchell, Edna Estevez, Noel Gunter, and Maxine Cannara, and many nieces and nephews.”
