MONTCLAIR, NJ — Will your car be parked in the right place if snow arrives, Montclair?

As the North Jersey area buckles down for a potential snowstorm forecast to hit on Wednesday or Thursday, Montclair officials issued an alert reminding residents to mind where they park their vehicles... or face the consequences.

The snowstorm is expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of snow, as well as some sleet, rain or ice, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service has issued a ”winter weather warning” for the entire state, except for Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. Those counties have been issued a "winter weather advisory."

On Wednesday afternoon, the Montclair Office of Emergency Management (OEM) declared a state of emergency, effective midnight on Thursday.

According to the Montclair OEM, parking on public streets during a snow event is prohibited (ordinance 327-25). In addition, vehicles may not be parked in such as way that they extend into the roadway when it snows. The parking prohibition remains in effect after the snowfall has stopped and until the entire block of roadway has been cleared of snow. Daily overnight parking permits may not be used when streets are snow covered.

Residents and business owners were reminded that snow blowing and shoveling snow from walkways, driveways and sidewalks into the streets, plowing driveways into the streets, cleaning snow off of vehicles into the streets is prohibited per township ordinance 297-33.

Code enforcement officials will be out enforcing this ordinance, the Montclair OEM stated Wednesday.
