MONTCLAIR, NJ — An orthodontist in Montclair is turning his love of running marathons into some serious cash for his local library.

On Nov. 24, Ed Gold of Montclair Orthodontics will be holding his latest fundraising effort for the Montclair Public Library when he takes part in the Philadelphia Marathon. Gold – whose Montclair practice is now entering its third decade – has been an active supporter for the library over the years, raising thousands of dollars to benefit the community.

This year, Gold has raised more than $4,300 in a little over a month for the library as he prepares for the grueling Philadelphia Marathon. (See his fundraising campaign or make a donation)

Gold shared some details about his motivation on GoFundMe:

“I decided to run for the Montclair Public Library with the hope that the library will help lay the foundation for this generation and future generations to learn and apply their acquired knowledge to benefit society. The foundation of knowledge may help lead to the cures for diseases that afflict so many of our families and friends or help our society in other ways.”

“It is my hope that, as an orthodontist who has been privileged to work with so many wonderful patients and families for over 30 years, that I can rally some of them to this cause. It does not matter how much one gives; every little bit helps in a big way. I would be so happy if children in my practice contributed 10 cents a mile ($2.60) to the Montclair Public Library Foundation. $2.60 not only helps the library, but equally important, it helps children become aware of the importance of supporting worthy causes. Please donate as generously as possible through the crowdrise donate tab or send your check to the Montclair Public Library Foundation (50 South Fullerton Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042) http://www.montclairplf.org. Please forward my message to anyone you think might support my cause. I promise I will do all of the leg work to reach my goal of 26.2 miles at the Philadelphia Marathon on November 24, 2019.”
