Montclair Plans Shuttle Bus In Anticipation Of Pathmark Closure

In an effort to soften the blow of the impending closure of the Pathmark supermarket at Lackawanna Plaza, Montclair township officials announced a plan to arrange shuttle bus support to the closest grocery alternative… the Brookdale ShopRite in Bloomfield.

According to a Wednesday release, township officials are working with the Essex County Special Transportation System and Senior Care and Activities Center to arrange shuttle bus transport from the Pathmark to the Bloomfield ShopRite.

The service will be available for seniors, people with disabilities and the general public, according to a release.

The Essex County Special Transportation System is working on a shuttle schedule to pick up senior residents (age 60 and over) and people with disabilities to take them grocery shopping at Brookdale ShopRite and afterwards drop them off at their homes.

The Senior Care and Activities Center is developing a shuttle schedule for the general public (seniors and non-seniors) for roundtrip service from the Lackawanna Plaza Pathmark to Brookdale ShopRite.

“In order to accurately meet this transportation demand, we ask residents to register for the services by contacting the Montclair Health Department at 973-509-4970, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” the release stated.

Residents will be asked their names, addresses and phone numbers, as well as their status as a senior citizen or a person with a disability. Residents will also be asked to select the travel schedule that best fits his/her needs.

Once schedules have been set, residents will be notified about when shuttle service will commence, the township stated.
