Montclair Police Chief Wins 'Executive Of The Year' Award In Essex County

Montclair's Sabagh is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson and a certified private pilot.

The Essex County Chiefs of Police Association presented the Municipal Law Enforcement Executive of the Year Award to Montclair Police Chief David Sabagh at the association’s annual dinner held December 3 at Nanina’s in the Park in Belleville.

According to a township release, Sabagh is a career law enforcement professional who began his career in 1985, with the Montclair Police Department and was the youngest Chief in the agency’s history.

  • Introducing programs that include the use of CCTV crime cameras and a “Virtual Patrol”
  • Implementing the “A Child is Missing” program
  • Creating a False Alarm Reduction program

In addition, Sabagh has served as the President of the Essex County Association of Chiefs of Police, and has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Human Resource Development from Seton Hall University. Sabagh is also a Certified Public Manager with the New Jersey Department of Personnel, a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and a board-certified Homeland Security specialist (CHS III).

Sabagh – a resident of Cedar Grove - serves as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he teaches classes in leadership and domestic preparedness, and is a certified private pilot, according to the township.
