Montclair Police Rescue Men From Burning Car After Alleged Accident

The two men allegedly attempted to flee the scene in their car after crashing into a utility pole, Montclair police say.

Montclair police pulled an allegedly intoxicated motorist and his passenger from their burning vehicle on Friday after the two allegedly crashed into a telephone pole and tried to flee the scene.

According to police, the rescue effort began when Corey Page, 45, of East Orange, struck and knocked down a utility pole on Wayside Place in his car.

Page then allegedly left the scene of the accident with his passenger, Arthur Bailey, 44, of Montclair, police stated.

Montclair officers soon found the car stopped on Greenwood Avenue, on fire and with the two men still inside.

While police pulled Page and Bailey from the burning car, Montclair firefighters extinguished the blaze, authorities reported.

Police later charged Page with DWI, and arrested Bailey on an open warrant out of Newark for $10,000.
