Montclair Police Seize Suspected Nitrous Tanks After Concert

Police found a bunch of tanks – which may contain nitrous oxide – while patrolling near the Wellmont Theater during a recent concert.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair police seized a bunch of tanks – which they believe contain nitrous oxide – while patrolling near the Wellmont Theater during a recent concert.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the incident took place on Sept. 29 outside the theater, which was hosting Joe Russo's Almost Dead, a popular Grateful Dead cover band.

Police said that they saw a man drop an unknown item in a wooded area on the west side of Seymour Plaza. Officers searched the area and located a large green bag containing a tank holding an unknown chemical, possibly nitrous oxide.

Several other tanks were found nearby, police said.

Officers apprehended the man who dropped the tank, a 21-year-old resident of Landisville, Pennsylvania, who also had two tank valve knobs and several packages of balloons in his possession, authorities said.

Police arrested the man and charged him with Toxic Chemical - Sale for purpose of Intoxication and Obstruction.
