Montclair Pot Dispensary Briefly Sells To Public, Then Stops: Report
A medical marijuana dispensary in Montclair is still awaiting a final greenlight from the town to begin recreational cannabis sales.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A medical marijuana dispensary in Montclair has been approved for recreational cannabis sales by the state, although it’s still awaiting a final go-ahead from the township. But that didn’t stop it from opening up to the public for recreational sales anyway – for a very brief time, a report says.
Ascend Wellness opened to the public for three hours on Tuesday morning without municipal approval, but stopped sales by 1:15 p.m., Montclair Local reported.
Ascend purchased the Greenleaf Compassion Center at 395 Bloomfield Avenue in 2020, which was the first medical marijuana dispensary to open in New Jersey.

Ascend still needs a final sign-off from township officials, although the town council has already issued a conditional license for it to expand into recreational sales. The council has also issued a resolution of support, which is needed for state approval.
