A prayer action in the name of “environmental justice” will take place in Montclair on Sunday, Jan. 19 ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Members of Interfaith Climate Action – a coalition of religious leaders from different faiths who work together on climate issues – plan to gather from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 40 South Fullerton Avenue, to “pray for climate and environmental justice and to oppose policies that harm or degrade our communities.”

According to a news release from organizers:
“Drawing on Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions honoring the Earth, members will reaffirm their commitment to work together to fight for stronger climate and environmental protections in New Jersey and at the federal level. The group will draw inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s writings and the faith traditions of fighting for social justice that he represents. This action is part of a national call to action from GreenFaith.”
The same coalition held a march to highlight “extreme weather” and call for a divestment from fossil fuels last year. See Related: Climate Change Protest Unites Different Religious Faiths In Montclair
