Montclair Resident Captains MKA Baseball

Montclair resident Lucas Barbetta is a standout hitter and sturdy veteran catcher for the Montclair Kimberley Academy baseball team this spring.

The junior tri-captain, who has been a varsity catcher since his freshman year, entered recent action with a solid .344 batting average along with 10 runs, 11 RBI, 10 walks and 9 stolen bases for the 3-9 Cougars, who are also 0-8 in the highly-competitive Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division.

Barbetta batted .284 last spring with 7 doubles, a home run and 11 RBI for an outstanding Cougars diamond squad which finished a solid 18-7 (8-2 in the SEC-Colonial Division) and advanced to the NJSIAA Non-Public, North B state sectional final where they lost to Pope John, 5-1.

"Lucas is a terrific catcher along with being one of our strongest hitters," said MKA third-year head coach Mike Sasso. "He is one of our team leaders and he will still have another high school season with us in 2027 which we're very happy about!"
