Montclair Resident Stars In Goal For MKA

Montclair resident James Bronson, a junior at Montclair Kimberley Academy, enjoyed a superb season as the starting goaltender for the Cougars' ice hockey team, putting together a terrific save percentage of .931 with 416 saves on 447 shots faced.
"James was just tremendous in goal for us," said veteran MKA Coach Tim Cook. "We had strong 'team' defense all season and James was a definite force of resistance in the back."
MKA finished 8-10 overall and 5-7 in the New Jersey Interscholastic Ice Hockey League's Kelly Division. The Cougars, who defeated Glen Rock, 2-0, behind Bronson's shutout in the Kelly Cup playoff quarterfinals, saw their season end with a semifinal setback to eventual Kelly Cup champion Scotch Plains.

Among Bronson's best performances was a miraculous 48-save performance in a 2-1 regular season setback to Scotch Plains on Feb. 3 when the Raiders outshot the Cougars, 50-29, but Bronson's stellar net-minding kept MKA in the contest right to the end.
He also had 22 saves in a 1-0 shutout of Verona on Jan. 21 and 26 saves in a 1-0 setback to Verona back on Jan. 7 in their first of two meetings in the Kelly Division this season.
