Montclair Restaurant Will Be Back After Fire Shut It Down

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A well-known restaurant in Montclair is expected to be “back up and running in a few weeks” after a fire last week, its owners say.

“We regret to inform you that we've had a small fire,” a message on Ruthie's BBQ & Pizza’s website read on Monday. “Everyone is safe. We need to address the damage, so we are closed for now. Hope to see you very soon!”

The grease fire – which happened on July 27 – reportedly damaged the restaurant's ceiling, smoker and sound system.

The restaurant shared a social media message about the fire on the day it happened:

“We had a fire this morning at Ruthie’s. No one was hurt, all ok, but we sustained some damage and will not be open for business until further notice. Heartbreaking for us all. But we will be back, we are on it. Damage is not extensive but emotional toll another thing. Those with catering orders we will be contacting you directly. Wish us luck.”

The next day, Ruthie’s offered another update:

“Thank you [to] the so many who have reached out with love and support. We can’t say enough how much it means to us to feel our community around us. We should be back up and running in a few weeks. Damage is not too extensive, so basically we are extremely fortunate and grateful to the two police officers who passed by and noted smoke in our shop. We are forever grateful.”
