MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair restaurant will be closing its doors next week after a scam sabotaged renovation plans. But there are plans to relocate to Belleville and start over with a “takeout and delivery-only model,” its owners say.

Here’s what the owners of Coffee & Cornbread at 38 Upper Montclair Plaza had to say on social media about the upcoming move:

“Dear family and friends, we hope this message finds you well. We wanted to share some important news regarding our business. It is with mixed emotions that we write to inform you about recent events that have compelled us to make a significant change in our business model. Regrettably, we fell victim to a scam that drained the funds allocated for our much-anticipated remodeling project. Despite this setback, we are determined to continue serving you, our loyal patrons, in the best way possible.”

The restaurant’s message continued:

“We have made the difficult decision to close our physical doors temporarily effective Sunday, Nov. 5. However, this is not the end for Coffee & Cornbread, but rather a strategic shift in our operations. Instead, we are relocating to Belleville, pivoting to a takeout and delivery-only model to ensure that you can still enjoy the food you’ve come to love from the comfort of your home or office. This strategic move empowers us to streamline our operations, ultimately leading to lower pricing for our valued customers. Our commitment to delivering the same high-quality cuisine remains unwavering. Our menu will still feature your favorite dishes, prepared with the same dedication to taste and quality that you've come to expect from us.”

“We understand that this transition may raise questions, and we are here to address any concerns you may have,” Coffee & Cornbread’s owners said, adding a final message of hope:

“Please feel free to reach out to us via phone or email if you have any inquiries or special requests. We are immensely grateful for your ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing to serve you through this new chapter. We are confident that with your loyalty and our determination, we can overcome this challenging situation and come back even stronger. Thank you for being a part of our Coffee & Cornbread family. We can't wait to share our delicious meals with you once again. We’ll see you later.”
