Montclair Rugby Rallies vs. Hudson Valley to Remain Undefeated

Montclair Rugby game recap from April 29, 2017

The Montclair Men's Rugby Football Club came back from an earlier deficit to defeat the Hudson Valley RFC last Saturday. The 36-27 road victory improved the club’s record to 4-0 this spring.

The undermanned Norseman’s side fell behind early by a score of 14-0 before settling into its game plan. Scrumhalf Harold Vasquez scored the first try and was followed by John Kempe who added a try just before halftime. Kempe’s score capped a Man-of-the-Match performance and left Montclair down 14-12 at the break.

Montclair used a strong wind at its back to control the tempo of the game in the second half. Tries by Peter Driscoll and Tom Brockett pushed the Norseman into a commanding 26-14 lead. Hudson Valley stuck back with a try to close within a score. But, Justin Bruso put the game out of reach by answering right back with a long-range try. Hudson Valley added a try at the game-time whistle to make the final score 36-27. Montclair was helped by another strong kicking performance by Vazquez who converted 4 out of 5 tries.
