Montclair Rugby Sweeps Princeton 9-16-17

Montclair Men's Rugby Football Club had a successful day last Saturday after both of its side were victorious against the Princeton Athletic Club. The Norseman’s Division 3 team started its fall league season with a 39-15 victory. Afterwards, its Division 2 side moved to 2-0 on the season by holding off Princeton by a 45-41 margin.

The Norseman broke out to a 26-12 halftime lead in the Division 2 game thanks to scores from Peter Driscoll and Andrew Soderman while Michael Arthur bulldozed through the Princeton defense for two tries of his own.

Princeton rallied to take a second half lead before another try from Peter Driscoll brought the Norseman back ahead for good. Harold Vasquez converted five tries on the day with another excellent kicking performance. Flanker John Kempe won man of the match for the Division 2 side by adding two second half tries along with strong lineout jumping throughout the game.

Montclair’s D3 side began the day with a solid 39-15 win over their Princeton counterparts. The Norseman took a 15-8 half-time lead as both teams battled hot and humid conditions. Montclair pulled away after the break by scoring another four tries. Richard Suchanski successfully controlled the game from his Fly half position and added a second half try to win D3 man of the match honors.

On Saturday, Montclair will visit Monmouth RFC for both Division 2 & 3 matches.
