MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair’s first microbrewery is gearing up for its inaugural Oktoberfest event, and there will be plenty of tasty libations to sample from, organizers say.

The Montclair Brewery will host its day-long Oktoberfest shindig on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 1:30 to 9:45 p.m. (Learn more about this local event or buy tickets)

Inspired by the annual beer tradition in Munich, Germany, the outdoor festival in the rear parking lot at 101 Walnut Street in Montclair will include 18 beers on tap, live music, food and family-friendly fun.

The event will kick off with the Montclair Brewery’s twist on the customary Munich Oktoberfest tapping of the first keg at 1:30 p.m.

Entertainment will come courtesy of Black Lace Blues, who will play an original mix of blues, funk and rock at 4 p.m., The Little Engineers, who will perform a medley of jazz, folk and rock at 7:30 p.m., and Rasha-Jay, who will take the stage with her band from 9 to 9:45 p.m. DJ Mega will work the turntables in between sets.

There will also be an Oktoberfest costume contest, an outdoor market with souvenirs and crafts, and food vendors that include vegan and gluten-free options.

The big star of the event, of course, is the beer.

The brewery will be featuring a brand-new Oktoberfest Lager and a Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout, in addition to other craft beers such as their Pine Street Pilsner, Frambois Lambic Raspberry ale and National Emergency New England style IPA.

Regular admission price at $15 includes one drink ticket, one commemorative pin and a souvenir cup. For $25, VIP ticket holders will receive all of the above, plus a pretzel necklace, 10% off at the outdoor festival shop and reserved seating.

The Montclair Brewery – owned by the wife-and-husband duo of Denise and Leo Sawadogo – celebrated its grand opening last October. It marked a long journey's end for its wife-and-husband owners, who recently completed a successful Indiegogo campaign to help raise funds to make their dream a reality.
