The school district was ranked in the bottom half of the best in New Jersey by Niche.com, a website using parent and student reviews.

The Montclair school district has been named the 82nd best school district in the state of New Jersey.
Niche.com is dedicated to evaluating U.S. and Puerto Rican schools based on parent and student reviews. The site reported that parent/student surveys gave the Montclair school district an overall school of 3.5 out of 5.
The district lacked any A+ rankings, but received five A’s, including academics, educational outcomes, extracurriculars, student culture and diversity, and teachers. The school district didn’t fare as well in several other categories, receiving just a B- in food, health and safety, and resources and facilities.

The website uses a very detailed set of methods to rank the top 100 schools in New Jersey. The site collected 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 New Jersey students and parents.

- Students are very happy with their experience in all aspects including academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities, extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
- District schools are exceptional academic institutions in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
- District schools are made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
- Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the district offers.
