Montclair Begins Search To Replace Resigning School Board Member

The Montclair Public School District has begun the search to replace Crystal Hopkins, who recently resigned from the board of education.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Public School District has begun the search to replace Crystal Hopkins, who resigned from the board of education earlier this week.

“While this decision was extremely difficult, my commitment and work ethic will not allow me to do mediocre work for this community and the thousands of children our decisions affect,” Hopkins said.

The board announced Friday that it is seeking candidates to replace Hopkins. The term will run until the annual organization meeting in January 2025.

The position will be placed on the ballot at the annual election for Nov. 5, 2024, the board noted.

Want to know what it takes to serve on the Montclair Board of Education? Here are the qualifications, administrators said:

  • A citizen of the United States of America
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to read and write
  • A resident of the Township of Montclair for at least (1) year preceding the date of appointment
  • Not directly/indirectly interested in a contract with, or a claim against, the Board
  • Registered to vote in the District
  • Not disqualified as a voter pursuant to NJSA 19:4-1

Candidates who want to apply for the position should submit a resume and letter of interest to: Montclair Board of Education, Attn: Christina Hunt, Business Administrator/Board Secretary; 22 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ 07042.

Applicants can also email chunt@montclair.k12.nj.us.

Letters of application will be accepted through Friday, May 31 until 4 p.m. The board of education will review all qualifying applicants. The board as a whole will select the top candidates to be interview in public at their meeting on June 5.
