Montclair Sorority Donates Clothes, Fixes Meals At Salvation Army

Members of the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority kept up a "longstanding annual MLK Day tradition" this year.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — On Martin Luther King Day, members of the Montclair-based Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority donated bags of new clothing and bedding and prepared a hot meal for residents of the Salvation Army shelter at 13 Trinity Place in Montclair.

According to the 100-member Montclair chapter, their service to the local Salvation Army is a “longstanding annual MLK Day tradition.”

The Montclair chapter of the sorority said that the “We Are One” AKA Service Day to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – which engaged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapters across all regions – was held to uplift the communities they serve.
