Montclair Sorority Kicks Off 40th Year Of Service On MLK Day
Members of the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. held a "day of service" in memory of the late civil rights icon.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — As a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, members of the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. recently held a “day of service” in memory of the late civil rights icon.
The Montclair-based AKA chapter kicked off their 40th year of service to the Greater Montclair community by donating new clothing and bedding, entertaining and preparing lunch for residents of the Salvation Army Citadel at 13 Trinity Place in Montclair.
Family members and friends of the sorority also participated in the day of service.

According to a news release from the Montclair AKA chapter:
“Since its inception in 1984, the graduate sorority chapter of college-educated, African-American women has worked to fulfill the needs of the Montclair community year-round. For the 100-member Montclair chapter, service to the local Salvation Army is a longstanding annual MLK Day tradition. The Montclair chapter of the sorority participates annually in the ‘We Are One’ AKA Service Day to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Service Day engages Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapters across all regions to uplift the communities they serve.”
