Montclair State Ranks Among ‘Top 30’ LGBT-Friendly Campuses In Nation: Study

For the second year in a row, Montclair State University has been named as one of the "most LGBT-friendly campuses" in the nation.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — For the second year in a row, Montclair State University has been named as one of the “most LGBT-friendly campuses” in the nation by Campus Pride.

The group based its top 30 list on its “Campus Pride Index,” which rated more than 235 universities across the nation for LGBTQ-inclusive benchmark measures such as university policies, programs and practices.

According to MSU’s submitted statement to Campus Pride:

“Montclair State University is committed to creating a campus environment inclusive and supportive of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression through education, advocacy, and support for students, faculty, and staff. We focus on the unique academic, cultural, and social needs of LGBTQ students, and strive to enhance these students' learning and engagement in the academic process. Our LGBTQ Center presents educational, cultural, and social opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to challenge intolerance and promote acceptance, thus creating an open and affirming environment void of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, cissexism, heterosexism, and gender bias.”

MSU also placed among the top 25 campuses in the group’s 2015 ranking list.
