Montclair Student Among Eight Finalists in Paper Mill Playhouse Dance Contest

The Paper Mill Playhouse recently held an online video contest where contestants were challenged to come up with a new, original dance move to the music track, "You Can't Stop the Beat" from the hit musical, Hairspray.  Eight finalists were chosen, including a ninth grader from Montclair, Rorey Furey-King. 

Rory, 14, is a talented dancer, singer and choreographer who graduated in June from Glenfield Middle School.  

The eight videos were selected through a panel of Paper Mill Playhouse judges and a public vote. Starting today, the public is invited to vote again.  Hairspray's Dance Invention promotes Paper Mill Playhouse's season opener, Hairspray, opening at the Millburn theater on September 22^nd.

 The eight finalists in alphabetical order are:

Chris Beard of Pennington, NJ, age 18. Dance invention entitled, "The Coif and Party."

 Isabella Bucci of Morris Plains, NJ, age 14. Dance invention entitled, "The Hairspray Bottle."

 Ryan Campbell of Stirling, NJ, age 16. Dance invention entitled, "The Neck Breaker."

 Allison Edelstein of Livingston, NJ, age 15. Dance invention entitled, "Tracy Time."

Rorey Furey-King of Montclair, NJ, age 14. Dance invention entitled, "The Frame."

Elena Knitel of Fair Lawn, NJ, age 13. Dance invention entitled, "The Sewing Machine."

 Phil Sloves of Fair Lawn, NJ, age 18. Dance invention entitled, "Galloping Bat."

 Mike Yosen of Whitehouse Station, NJ, age 20. Dance invention entitled, "The Prom Shuffle."

The overall winner will be announced on September 26 at the opening night performance of Hairspray.  The winner will be the contestant with the most votes.

All eight finalists will receive a four pack of tickets to the opening night performance of Hairspray at Paper Mill Playhouse. In addition, the grand prize winner will receive four admissions to the cast party, and have his/her dance invention performed by Tracy Turnblad herself, on stage.  

Hairspray will run from September 22 through October 24, 2010. Casting will be announced soon.
