Montclair Teachers Union Reports 'Security Breach'
Montclair Education Association computers were "compromised," the union president alleged.
Montclair, NJ – It’s a “breach in security and faith,” Montclair Education Association (MEA) President Gayle Shepard alleged.
During Monday’s Board of Education meeting, Shepard – whose union represents more than 1,100 local teachers and support staff – revealed that MEA computers have been “compromised.”
According to Shepard, the breach began in the fall of 2013 and allowed for the tracking and monitoring of activity, including confidential MEA information.

“I stand here representing over 1,000 members whose trust and confidence is shattered,” Shepard asked board members during Monday’s meeting. “I ask you now, were members of this or any previous board complicit in this activity? I ask you now, were any district employees complicit in this activity?”
Shepard’s statement was followed by several other public comments that also questioned whether board members had knowledge of any alleged MEA security breaches.
