Montclair Veterans Day Tribute Event 2017

Montclair will host its annual Veterans Day tribute for 2017 on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Edgemont Park.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair Township will host its annual Veterans Day tribute for 2017 on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in Edgemont Park. This year’s event will include remarks from Master of Ceremonies and Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson, U.S. Army veteran Michael Turgeon, and U.S. Marine Corp. Sergeant Brett D'Alessandro.

According to a Montclair municipal news release, the Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael, Co-Senior Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (UUC), will perform the invocation and benediction and Rev. Scott Sammler-Michael, Co-Senior Minister at UUC, will bless the wreaths. Montclair High School student Destiny Davis will sing the national anthem and members of Boy Scouts Troop 12 will lead the pledge of allegiance.

Also attending will be representatives from veterans organizations which include the Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251, Lt. Vincent J. Russo American Legion Post 382, Disabled American Veterans, Daughters of the American Revolution Eagle Rock Chapter, as well as members of the Montclair Red Cross.

The Montclair Community Band will perform immediately prior to and after the ceremony and the band's trumpeter Carl B. Witzig will sound “Taps.”

The Montclair Honor Guard will open the program with the Advance of Colors and will conclude the ceremony with the Retirement of Colors.

In the event of rain, services will be held in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 205 Claremont Avenue, Montclair. For more information, call 973-509-4915.

The Veterans Day public holiday is observed on Friday, Nov. 10. Municipal offices will be closed. Refuse, recycling will be collected. The public works yard (219 North Fullerton Avenue) will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. for recycling drop-off.
