Montclair Will Elect Mayor, Council Members In 2024 (How To Run)

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Get ready for a busy election year, Montclair.

The township’s 2024 municipal election will take place on Tuesday, May 14. There are several posts up for grabs this year: mayor, two council-at-large seats, and a council seat in each of Montclair’s four wards.

Registered voters who want to run for one of the seven offices must be a registered voter in the Township of Montclair (or ward, as the case may be), and have been a resident of the township or ward for at least one year prior to Election Day.

Starting on Jan. 5, nominating petitions and an information packet will be available in the township clerk’s office during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday (except holidays).

Prospective candidates must first appoint a campaign treasurer and designate a campaign depository before accepting or expending any monies in connection with the forthcoming election. This can be done by filing the name of the campaign treasurer and campaign depository with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).
