Montclair Woman Makes History At American Express, Joins Top Team

MONTCLAIR, NJ — American Express announced Friday that Montclair resident Glenda McNeal will become a member of the company’s executive committee, effective immediately.

McNeal, president of enterprise strategic partnerships, is the first African American woman to sit on the committee, making her appointment a watershed moment, the company said.

The committee is now represented by seven women, a record number for the company, spokespeople said.

According to American Express:

“Glenda has had a storied over 30+ year career at American Express, having served in a number of roles across the company including in card issuing and network businesses, sales and client management, business development and marketing and strategy that has ascended her through the ranks. In her current role Glenda is charged with leading strategy and negotiations for key partnerships with the largest e-commerce, travel, technology and retail companies. Her imagination, leadership and influence has solidified innovative relationships with key partners such as Delta, Amazon and Hyatt. Glenda’s elevation to the Executive Committee comes on the heels of American Express’ announcement of The Ambition Project - an initiative focused on helping women embrace their ambition and pay it forward.”

“Glenda serves on the boards of Nordstrom, Inc, RLJ Lodging Trust and the World Travel and Tourism Council, the United Negro College Fund and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council. She is a graduate of Dillard University and received her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a resident of Montclair, NJ and sits on the board of trustees for the Montclair Film Festival.”
