Mounties Basketball Team Shows "No Fight" In Fall To Seton Hall

Montclair Head Coach: "There was no fight in Montclair High School today"

The Montclair Boys Basketball Team could not overcome a 20-point first quarter deficit, falling to Seton Hall 75-54 at home on Tuesday.

"We were horrible in the defensive end ... they penetrated the ball and got wide open shots," said Mounties Head Coach Major Jennings. "My team looked intimidated to me, they completely exploited us in every situation."

Montclair struggled from the start to deal with Seton Hall's premiere scorers Sterling Gibbs and Dallas Anglin, who both picked apart the Mounties from every angle on the court. Seton Hall surged early to a 27-7 first quarter lead behind good ball movement and high quality shots. Gibbs finished with 25 points while Anglin complemented the offense nicely with 19 points of his own.

"Going down by 20 points was a result of mentally not being tough enough ... when you're not tough enough against quality teams, they'll take advantage of you," said Jennings.

Montclair attempted to make a comeback in the second half once Seton Hall began to rest Gibbs and Anglin, but it was too little too late for the Mounties. Kabir West led the Mounties in scoring with 12 points while teammates Talib Swan and Nijawhan Courami chipped in with 9 and 11 points respectively. Despite their statistically solid performances, Jennings was sure to note that there was "nothing positive about how [the team] played today."

The Mounties fall to 1-1 on the season with this loss, which has raised a number of questions about the team. "What we have to do is look in the mirror and understand that we didn't do a good job and try to get on track and just play better," said Jennings. He added, "I do realize we have a lot of inexperience on the floor, but you have to fight from beginning to end and there was no fight in Montclair High School today."
