New Fire Chief Takes Helm In Montclair: Robert Duncan

"It is a privilege to serve the Montclair community," the town's new fire chief said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair has a new fire chief: Robert Duncan.

Duncan – who has been serving as acting chief since April – was officially promoted to the helm of the Montclair Fire Department last week. He has been with the department since 1994, and has seen a series of promotions on his way to becoming chief (lieutenant in 2003, captain in 2010, deputy chief in 2015).

Duncan said it was an honor to be appointed as chief.

“It is a privilege to serve the Montclair community, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our dedicated team to ensure the highest level of safety and service for our residents,” Duncan said.

Montclair Mayor Renee Baskerville said the promotion is a testament to Duncan’s “extensive experience and proven track record.”

“We are excited for the future of the Montclair Fire Department under his leadership and are grateful for his continued dedication to protecting our community,” Baskerville said.

Acting Township Manager Michael Lapolla also praised the qualifications of the town’s new fire chief.

“Robert Duncan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication during his tenure with the department,” Lapolla said. “His deep knowledge of our community and his commitment to its safety and well-being make him the ideal candidate for this role. Township residents can be confident that he will continue to lead the department with both integrity and excellence.”
