Two Montclair natives will be opening a new restaurant this fall in Upper Montclair… The Turtle + The Wolf.

Chef Lauren Hirschberg and Matt Trevenen describe their new venture – to be located at 622 Valley Road - as “local and seasonal.”

In a release, Hirschberg stated that he intends to utilize “a creative simplicity” honed during his thirteen years in the kitchens of Manhattan’s highly acclaimed Craft restaurants.

WHY THE NAME?

“The simple answer is that the turtle and wolf were two of the clan symbols for the Lenape Indians,” Hirschberg stated on the restaurant’s website. “As these were the indigenous people to the area that is now Montclair, I thought this was a cool way to give historical context to the restaurant and its location.”
