Family and friends have launched an aid effort in the memory of slain NJIT student Joeseph Micalizzi.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Micalizzi, 23, a Freehold resident and a student at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, was shot Monday in a fraternity house located in the 300 block of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard.

Friends and family launched an online fundraiser to help defray funeral expenses that has raised more than $15,000 since the tragic shooting.

“Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Joe knows that he loved his family more than life,” campaign organizers stated. “He couldn't bear to see them in so much pain. I know firsthand he has a beautiful mother whom Joe absolutely adored and a hard working father whom Joe had the utmost respect for. He was also graced with two beautiful sisters whom he consistently bragged about. Let us gather together and honor his beloved family with our prayers, support, and donations. Funeral expenses are not cheap and Joe deserves nothing but the best.”
