NJ Transit Delays: Fatal Strike In Montclair, 'Disabled Train'

NJ Transit riders on the MOBO line were delayed due to a fatal train strike in Montclair, a "disabled train" and a "manpower shortage."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A NJ Transit train struck and killed a person near Watchung Avenue in Montclair on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

NJ Transit said that the “trespasser fatality” caused a temporary suspension in both directions on the Montclair-Boonton (MOBO) line. Officials said the incident caused up to 45-minute delays on the MOBO line, and canceled at least one train: the #6209 from New York Penn Station.

Meanwhile, other issues on the MOBO line compounded the delays from Tuesday’s fatal strike for local commuters. According to NJ Transit:

  • Train service in and out of NY Penn Station was subject to 60-minute delays due to a “disabled NJ Transit train and Amtrak signal problems” (read more here)
  • MOBO train #6210, the 7:17 a.m. from Montclair State University, was canceled due to “equipment availability”
  • MOBO train #6213, the 9:28 a.m. from PSNY, was operating up to 25 minutes late due to a “manpower shortage”
