ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — NJ Transit officials suspended train service on the Montclair-Boonton Line on Wednesday morning after a tree fell onto the tracks in Essex County. Rail service remained suspended in both directions as of 11 a.m.

According to an alert from NJ Transit:

“Montclair-Boonton Line rail service is suspended in both directions due to a downed tree in the overhead wires near Glen Ridge. Substitute bus service is being provided between Newark Broad Street and Montclair State University. NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ Transit bus and private carriers.”

A tweet from the agency – which showed a large tree trunk jutting over a portion of the tracks – gave an update on the situation:

“Crews are on scene working to remove the downed tree in the overhead wires near Glen Ridge. Rail service remains suspended in both directions. Substitute bus service is being provided between Newark Broad Street & Montclair State University.”
