NJ Transit Train Strikes Teen In Essex County: Officials

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Emergency responders transported a teenage male to the hospital after an NJ Transit train struck him in Essex County on Thursday morning, authorities say.

The train — which departed from New York Penn Station and was headed to Montclair State University — struck a juvenile male “trespasser” on the tracks west of the Bloomfield Train Station around 9:50 a.m., a NJ Transit spokesperson told NorthJersey.com.

The teen - initially identified as a 14-year-old but later described as an 18-year-old - sustained a head injury but was conscious when he was taken to UMDNJ in Newark, the spokesperson stated.

Glen Ridge Schools Superintendent Dirk Phillips reportedly told NorthJersey.com that the victim was a student at Bloomfield High School.

NJ Transit officials provided several updates about delays to the Montclair-Boonton line on Thursday:
